Thus, EMR is sometimes referred to as the far field. ![]() Electromagnetic radiation is associated with those EM waves that are free to propagate themselves ("radiate") without the continuing influence of the moving charges that produced them, because they have achieved sufficient distance from those charges. EM waves carry energy, momentum and angular momentum away from their source particle and can impart those quantities to matter with which they interact. ![]() Įlectromagnetic waves are emitted by electrically charged particles undergoing acceleration, and these waves can subsequently interact with other charged particles, exerting force on them. In order of increasing frequency and decreasing wavelength these are: radio waves, microwaves, infrared radiation, visible light, ultraviolet radiation, X-rays and gamma rays. Electromagnetic waves of different frequency are called by different names since they have different sources and effects on matter. The position of an electromagnetic wave within the electromagnetic spectrum can be characterized by either its frequency of oscillation or its wavelength. In homogeneous, isotropic media, the oscillations of the two fields are on average perpendicular to each other and perpendicular to the direction of energy and wave propagation, forming a transverse wave. In a vacuum, electromagnetic waves travel at the speed of light, commonly denoted c. Depending on the frequency of oscillation, different wavelengths of electromagnetic spectrum are produced. Ĭlassically, electromagnetic radiation consists of electromagnetic waves, which are synchronized oscillations of electric and magnetic fields. Types of EMR include radio waves, microwaves, infrared, (visible) light, ultraviolet, X-rays, and gamma rays, all of which are part of the electromagnetic spectrum. In physics, electromagnetic radiation ( EMR) consists of waves of the electromagnetic (EM) field, which propagate through space and carry momentum and electromagnetic radiant energy. Most of the petroleum products consumed in the United States are made from crude oil, but petroleum liquids can also be made from natural gas and coal. Most of the energy consumed in the United States is from nonrenewable energy sources:Ĭrude oil, natural gas, and coal are called fossil fuels because they were formed over millions of years by the action of heat from the earth's core and pressure from rock and soil on the remains (or fossils) of dead plants and creatures such as microscopic diatoms.

Playing as one of the Old World factions does feel different, then, with more places to colonise, ruins to explore and tweaks that bring them more in line with the Warhammer 2 factions. In my case, it meant that I was able to settle some of those Dwarven outposts and protect my rotten heartlands, but it also inspires some unexpected conflicts as factions take unusual expansion paths and collide with their new neighbours. Mortal Empires uses the same rules, and it's had a pretty big impact on how factions develop. When Warhammer 2 introduced the concept of climates, it let any faction put down roots in any settlement, with the caveat that settlements in the wrong climate would be penalised. In the first Warhammer, factions could only colonise specific types of settlements, so these Dwarven towns were ultimately worthless to the Vampire Counts. Dealing with them used to mean razing their settlements, but a razed town can always be colonised by Dwarves again, and until then it would just be left fallow. The moment you turn around to deal with the Empire, those sneaky, stumpy blighters could crawl out of their underground fortresses and tumble down the mountainside to lay siege to Vampire cities. Every piece of DLC, aside from the Norsca faction, can be used in Mortal Empires.Īn early threat to the Vampire Counts are the Dwarven factions milling around the mountains to the east and south. This time, though, I picked one of the DLC leaders: Vlad von Carstein. My very first Total War: Warhammer campaign, back when I first got my hands on it last year, was with the hoity-toity Vampire Counts, so for old times’ sake, I returned to the haunted forests and imposing castles of Sylvania. The cinematics and the tense race for control of the titular Vortex are gone, and it’s a loss, but plenty of other Warhammer 2 improvements have been carried over. ![]() Like the first Warhammer campaign, it’s largely a free-for-all with each faction being given specific capitals to conquer and the eventual Chaos invasion to survive. I love it.Īfter Total War: Warhammer 2’s tighter, objective-driven Vortex campaign, I was hesitant to jump into the more aimless Mortal Empires. It took me an hour of second-guessing and two false starts before I finally settled on a faction and leader. In terms of scale, it’s the series at its most ambitious, and its most daunting. Mortal Empires is Total War’s grandest of grand campaigns: a stunningly huge global war with over 100 factions and 35 leaders duking it out over multiple continents. Yet to believe that a whole group of people would be that vindictive is a shame. ![]() Perhaps the misconception was based on the idea that there were fewer women than men in the workforce then, and therefore women would be motivated to take advantage of their partner’s money. However, it is too stereotypical to say that every woman is after a man’s money. #4: Women are vindictive and will ‘take half of your shit.’ Eddie Murphy spent the better half of his routine explaining how he had just learned that women can take half of a man’s income after a divorce. What types of jokes am I referring to? Well, besides his leather suit, I have compiled a list of the top 4: If repeated today, they would have most likely been blown up by social media before Murphy could walk off the stage. While watching Raw, I noticed some topics that have changed meaning since the late 80s. He believed it was because everyone, regardless of culture, can relate at some level to difficulties in dating and romantic relationships. Chris Rock once mentioned in an interview in 2012 that out of all the things he talks about in his routines, his jokes about relationships were the biggest hit among his audiences worldwide. While comedy is heavily influenced by politics and by culture, there are also many jokes about sex and relationships. After watching Raw for the first time this year, I began to think about how comedy has changed over the past 30 years. To date, it is the highest-grossing standup movie of all time. Anyone as good as Eddie Murphy should have outgrown that years ago. This year marked the 30th anniversary of Eddie Murphy’s comedy special Raw. Most of the jokes in “Eddie Murphy Raw” (MPAA-rated R, for language) are the kind you regale buddies with to show off. It’s a rare human moment in the film, and it reminds us that all of Pryor’s greatest routines came from humanity, the ability to mock yourself as well as the world. Later on, he tells a story-not funny, but goofy and sweet-about watching his mother make hamburgers with green peppers and Wonder Bread. They’re both recollections of Murphy’s boyhood, one an imitation of himself imitating Pryor. Ceaselessly, we see Murphy, in his blue leather, prowling back and forth in front of a murky red curtain-in unvaried, banal, head-on medium shots. ![]() The movie has so little visual electricity, it almost drones. One plus: Murphy has hired two talented young black film makers-director Robert Townsend (“Hollywood Shuffle”) and Ernest Dickerson, Spike Lee’s regular cameraman-to shoot “Raw.” A minus: Townsend’s talents apparently aren’t for concert films. It’s as if he’s in a speed-swearing contest with Richard Belzer. And also, endlessly, the common Anglo-Saxon slang words for feces, sexual intercourse and assorted deviant acts. Here they seem wasted he’s like a musician with fabulous technique playing “Chopsticks.” He bombards us with what may be a Guinness record for non-stop, pointless scatology-plus offensively adolescent street “wisdom” on women, swishy gay routines and anecdotes about a dumb-sounding disco brawl. Murphy has great gifts and comic technique, a genius for mimicry. This material isn’t just raw, it’s scraped to the bone. Yet the machismo isn’t funny, until he twists it around to mock Italian-Americans hung up on “Rocky.” Murphy’s dressed here in a blue and black leather outfit that make him look like Disco Harry-an image reeking with machismo. His comedy is based on dazzling verbal ingenuity excessive street jive makes him comes across as a bully. ![]() When Pryor talks like a would-be pimp, it’s funny because he isn’t one: his eyes bulge with Angst and vulnerability.Īnd Murphy lacks vulnerability. Swearing and swaggering, he misses the soul of Pryor’s comedy: uncertainty, panic and pain covered up by nervous highs and transparent bravado. Murphy imitates Pryor now as Pryor once imitated Cosby-but it’s just a four-letter husk. And when Murphy gets Pryor consent for his profanity, it’s something of a cheat. Cosby comes across as a querulous meddler, his voice a near-senile venomous croak. Murphy can do a great Cosby imitation, but his mimicry here is choked with malice. There’s a symbolic angle: Cosby and Pryor are the godheads of black stand-up comedy, and Murphy invokes them as if in a struggle for his soul-which Pryor wins. It’s an interesting bit, though it isn’t very funny. ![]() Perturbed, Murphy calls Pryor (“Yo, Richard!”) and is told to tell Cosby, saltily, to butt out. Cosby supposedly calls him up and complains bitterly about Murphy’s foul language. Early on, in “Eddie Murphy Raw” (citywide), a surprisingly poor concert film of Murphy’s stand-up act, he does a double imitation of Bill Cosby and Richard Pryor-casting them in a private hagiography as his good and ba-a-a-a-d comedy daddies. ![]() Don’t ruin the whole thing by rushing the process. ![]() If you’re stopping to remove a screw, then there’s some value in protecting your workpiece. Depending on the size of the screw extractor you plan to use, you probably only need to drill down about 1/8″ to 1/4″. Keeping your drill bit straight, drill down slowly into the screw. To make your life easier, add a little bit of thread cutting oil to the head of the screw. Next, find a drill bit that has a smaller diameter than the screw you need to remove. Pro Tip: If you’re working a bolt or plug out of an engine, mind those metal shards – you don’t want them falling into the engine block! Step 4: Drilling a Guide Hole This will create an indentation in the very center of the screw that will help guide the drill bit. To do this, you align a punch to the center of the screw and hammer it down lightly. With a basic screw extractor, you may need to provide some space in the screw head for it to work. That means drilling or expanding a hole in that old screw. You may also want a pair of gloves if you’re concerned about metal shavings cutting you. You always want to protect your eyeballs from debris. Thread cutting oil and/or penetrating oilĭon those safety glasses, because your work could potentially send a few metal shards flying about.Drill bits (not needed if your extractor has a boring end).Drill (we do not recommend using an impact driver-too much torque and speed). You need a few tools depending on the type and size of fastener as well as the material you’re trying to remove it from: How to Use a Screw Extractor – Step by Step Step 1: Gather Some Needed Tools Makes sense, right?īasically, after punching or drilling into the top of your busted-up screw, you’ll use a screw extractor to bite down into the screw and twist it back out of whatever it was holding together. This helps it lock into and remove damaged screws. While brands vary, the most common design uses a tapered drill bit with reverse threading. The key to the screw extractor’s usefulness lies in its general design. How a Screw Extractor Removes Damaged Screws If you’re just starting out, or you find yourself apprenticing with a Pro, we can show you how to extract a screw as if you’ve been doing it for years. Keep a relatively inexpensive screw extractor on hand. Rounded out and stripped screws can throw a real wrench in your productivity, but they don’t have to bring your work to a grinding halt. Other times, however, you’ve simply got to get it out. Sometimes you can cut or bend off a fastener and it’s fine. Slowly keep turning the screw/bolt/plug out until it works free.Flip the bit around and use constant pressure in reverse (slooooooow speed) to drive in the extractor until it bites.Using your drill in reverse, slowly bore out the damaged head.Look for hardened steel-these bits need to be strong.Use a set with double-ended boring/screw extracting bits-they’re easier. How to Use a Screw Extractor – Step by Step. How a Screw Extractor Removes Damaged Screws. ![]() Stay organized with address labels, file folder labels, shipping labels, name tags, versatile multipurpose labels, and more. This game feels like it was meant for a younger audience at times when everything you need to do is plainly stated (sometimes even several times over) but that would be in contrast with some of the convolution that not even an adult could figure out where or how to progress without glancing over a walkthough which isn't desirable for any game.Okami HD is an Action-Adventure and Single-player video game developed by TBC and published by Capcom U.S.A. The redeemable qualities of this game are it's art style, the story, cutscenes ,and characters are well executed though don't explore out of the realm of cliche, the fishing minigame that requires me to inject steroids into my left thumb, and some of the objectives/side quests are genuinely intuitive and fun to complete but there's still a lot of missed opportunities to give the player an "Aha" moment. The entire game and everything you do in it is linear and scripted but the game gives away the answers to puzzles straight from the beginning, the balance of how much information the player should be given to complete a task is very rarely intuitive and rewarding to follow through with, either the dialogue overextends information of what the player is to do or it tells you to do "step 4" but completely overlooks steps 1-3 which are seemingly unrelated to step 4. What I was supposed to do was go back to shore and talk to someone on a cliff that triggers an event where you draw stars in the sky to create a spiral constellation and spin it to create the whirlpool in the ocean. Then there's also another point in the game with the Orca and finding a "whirlpool" that leads to the dragon temple, the Orca tells you that "the whirlpool is somewhere in the ocean" so I ride around exploring the islands in the ocean and when I decide to actually look for this whirlpool instead I waste 20 minutes looking for it because the Orca couldn't be any more specific about how this "whirlpool" was to be accessed. the cannon doesn't appear to fire any sort of projectile out of it to indicate that it will affect the surface it is being targeted at so I assumed that some sort of cannon ball needed to be located but no, it's just bad game design. ![]() One point in the game requires you to fire a rotating cannon at a wall to crate a hole but there aren't any distinctive marks for what wall this cannon should be fired at. There are certain points in the story where what you're supposed to do is completely incoherent and the developers knew it or else they wouldn't add a "fortune teller" so you can pay for the red text that tells you what to do. The dialogue would be better if it didn't exist at all and was more of an artistic representation where the environment indicates where to go and what to do rather than some red text that plainly states it. The combat becomes super limiting in what you are able to do and certain enemies and bosses require you to perform very specific actions in order to deal damage to them and once you figure out their gimmick they become a breeze. every time you choose to feed animals a cutscene is loaded that is unique to the animal type you are feeding, this is even a longer break in gameplay and requires you to wait around 5 seconds before you can get out of it. every time you pick up an inventory item the game pauses and displays a popup description that you can't skip until a second and a half whether or not you've picked up that same item before.
