The importance of creativity and exploration within art is a major focus of the text, but some of its ideas, as on the importance of choosing a good medium, are repeated without necessity. Brief paragraphs about the history of travel and journaling are a fun snapshot into how both have evolved. A glossary at the front of the book gives definitions of the journaling terms used throughout. Social media handles are included, making further exploration of the artists’ work easy. The book is divided into eight accessible sections: an introduction, five chapters about starting and creating a travel journal, and a gallery of “guest artists” who also journal. But just because you prioritize certain strengths, does not mean you can’t use different ones. Your top strengths are often really effective for you, but sometimes your preferred strengths won’t work in certain situations or with certain people. And you may be uncomfortable with the strengths at the bottom or even avoid using them. The strengths at the top are most like you. Your Strengths Portrait ranks your strengths from 1 to 28 and shows how you prioritize these behaviors in your daily work relationships. The strengths measured aren’t skills or proficiencies, but the behaviors you choose when trying to reach a goal. Your assessment results provide you with a Strengths Portrait that tells a story of how you use your strengths when you interact with others. In summary, your motives are represented by a dot on a color-coded triangle, and your Conflict Sequence is represented by an arrowhead that shows how your motives change during the three stages of conflict. But the good news is, the SDI 2.0 shows you how to resolve conflict productively, no matter how bad it gets. Everyone predictably experiences those 3 stages of conflict (in varying order) and we show that change with an arrowhead in one of thirteen Conflict Sequence regions on the SDI Triangle.Ĭonflict and motives are closely related because you are more likely to go into conflict over things that are important to you. At some point in a conflict, you shift from a People, Performance, Process perspective, and you begin to focus on how to Accommodate, Assert, or Analyze the situation. That’s because your motives predictably change in conflict, and we call that a Conflict Sequence. It’s usually uncomfortable and you often don’t feel at your best. This is what you feel when your motives and values are being threatened. Sometimes there’s conflict in a relationship. The Philippines Archipelago experiences an average of 22 typhoons a year. The innovative company has received international attention, winning the ASEAN Business Award for Green Technology in 2017. The IFC continues to work on building low-income, solar-paneled homes in the Metro Manila area. The solar panels substantially cut down families’ electricity bills, allowing them to afford other essential needs. IFC also installed solar panels on the roofs of all Via Verde Homes. Via Verde houses consume about 25% less water and roughly 40% less energy in contrast to standard housing. Imperial Homes Corporation (IFC) has been tackling this problem through the development of “energy-efficient communities” like Via Verde Homes. The Philippines has one of the highest household electricity rates in Southeast Asia, often creating a financial burden for low-income houses. This makes bamboo a durable and environmentally friendly material. The engineered bamboo lasts up to 50 years and absorbs carbon rather than produces it. This means that the homes can be put together on-site in just four hours. Unlike other housing solutions for the Philippines, CUBO Modular, the designer of the homes, prefabricates them off-site. EarthTech has proposed an affordable, sustainable and efficient solution: modular homes made out of bamboo. Bamboo HousesĮarthTech, an innovative development agency focused on sustainability, recognizes the Philippines’ housing problem as a crisis. Hope in solving the housing crisis is rising as efforts begin introducing creative solutions to cater to the Philippines’ unique needs. For this reason, activists often center efforts around increasing housing solutions for the Filipinos in Manila. Manila, the capital of the Philippines, is where a significant portion of homeless Filipinos reside. This number is expected to rise to 12 million by 2030 if no action takes place to address the issue. The homeless population in the Philippines is a staggering 4.5 million, representing about 4% of the population. The term “metaphysics” comes from the Greek words “meta,” meaning “beyond” or “after,” and “physika,” meaning “physics.” Did you know that there’s more to the world than what meets the eye? That’s where the study of metaphysics comes in. » MORE: Career Opportunities for Philosophy Graduates The Etymology and Origin of Metaphysics As a result, they frequently query their lecturers to know the essence of studying philosophy: What is the value of philosophy? What job can I do after studying philosophy? Find out below why a philosophy degree is more valuable than many people realize.įurthermore, philosophy students often face questions about the practical applications of their studies. But is this really the case? From debunking fallacies to developing critical thinking skills, philosophy has a lot to offer students and society as a whole. Philosophy ( as well as metaphysics), as an area of study, is lately attracting a lack of patronage because it neither “puts food on the table nor builds bridges.” This is a manner of describing the commonplace opinion that philosophy is an abstract “speculative reasoning or exercise about the cosmos or reality and thus has no direct relevance or contribution to make in practical issues of human existence.”įor many, philosophy is thought to be an abstract and impractical pursuit with no real-world value. This philosophical article extensively discusses the meaning and concept of metaphysics, examines its philosophical foundation, digests the metaphysical thoughts in the different periods of philosophy, and delineates the relevance and importance of metaphysics in the contemporary era (to contemporary society). It is an ongoing process of inquiry and investigation that has captivated philosophers for centuries and continues to be an important area of study in contemporary philosophy. Therefore, metaphysics is a highly complex and abstract field of philosophy that seeks to understand the fundamental nature of reality, being, and existence. It attempts to provide a comprehensive understanding of reality and to answer some of the deepest and most fundamental questions about existence. In addition to ontology and epistemology, metaphysics also includes the study of other philosophical concepts, such as causation, identity, free will, and the nature of time and space. It also examines the relationship between knowledge and belief, and the ways in which we can justify our beliefs. Epistemology explores the nature of knowledge, how we acquire it, and how we can know things to be true. Ontology explores the different categories of being, such as substance, property, event, and relation, and examines their relationship to one another.Īnother important area of metaphysics is epistemology, which is the study of knowledge and belief. One of the key areas of metaphysics is ontology, which is the study of the nature of being and existence. The number of petals on a flower, for instance, is usually a Fibonacci number. The arrangement of the seeds follows the shape of the spiral with a slight rotation. This picture is a good example for its appearing in sunflowers. It can’t be told if galaxies follow a perfect spiral, because we can’t measure a galaxy accurately, but on paper, we can measure it and see the size. As it turns out, the numbers in the Fibonacci sequence appear in nature very frequently. We can see the Fibonacci spiral many times in the nature, both in flora and fauna. The golden spiral can be found in the shape of the “arms” of galaxies if you look closely. They also appear in biological settings, such as branching in trees, the arrangement of leaves on a stem, the fruit sprouts of a pineapple, the flowering of an. Of the most visible Fibonacci sequence in plants, lilies, which have three petals, and buttercups, with their five petals, are some of the most easily recognised. The petals of a flower grow in a manner consistent with the Fibonacci. This proportional growth occurs because the nautilus grows at a constant rate throughout its life until reaching its full size. Each new chamber is equal to the size of the two camerae before it, which creates the logarithmic spiral. When cut open, nautilus shells form a logarithmic spiral, composed of chambered sections called camerae. But is a hurricane actually a Fibonacci spiral? > Xah Lee Seashells The Fibonacci Spiral is seen in nature in many ways such as the shape of a nautilus (seashell), the arrangement of the spirals of a sunflower, and the. This pattern is much like the Golden Ratio. The Fibonacci sequence is a series of numbers that, divided by the one before it, produces a number termed the 'golden ratio. These numbers, 34 and 21, are numbers in the Fibonacci series, and their ratio 1.6190476 closely approximates Phi, 1.6180339.Your eye of the storm is like the 0 or 1 in the Fibonacci sequence, as you go on in the counter-clockwise spiral you find it increasing at a consistent pattern. The DNA molecule measures 34 angstroms long by 21 angstroms wide for each full cycle of its double helix spiral. DNA moleculesĮven the microscopic realm is not immune to Fibonacci. When a hawk approaches its prey, its sharpest view is at an angle to their direction of flight - an angle that's the same as the spiral's pitch. It's a series of steadily increasing numbers in which each number (the Fibonacci number) is the sum of the two preceding numbers. Take, for instance, the Fibonacci sequence. And as noted, bee physiology also follows along the Golden Curve rather nicely. Probably not, but there are some pretty common ones that we find over and over in the natural world. It appears in biological settings such as branching in trees, phyllotaxis (the. Take, for instance, the Fibonacci sequence. We observe that many of the natural things follow the Fibonacci sequence. Following the same pattern, females have 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, and so on. Probably not, but there are some pretty common ones that we find over and over in the natural world. Thus, when it comes to the family tree, males have 2, 3, 5, and 8 grandparents, great-grandparents, gr-gr-grandparents, and gr-gr-gr-grandparents respectively. Males have one parent (a female), whereas females have two (a female and male). In addition, the family tree of honey bees also follows the familiar pattern. The answer is typically something very close to 1.618. The most profound example is by dividing the number of females in a colony by the number of males (females always outnumber males). Speaking of honey bees, they follow Fibonacci in other interesting ways. I'm sorry for the large paragraphs, I'm just trying to give as many details as possible and get this figured out. I thought that maybe I could uninstall RetroArch and delete it, then re-install, essentially resetting it (I think?) but I don't know how to do that. I just don't know what I did and what I can do to fix it. My controls for the other SNES games work fine otherwise. It's only the RetroArch app and N64 games that this is happening to. I also have to put my controller into the left port to navigate the SNES menu, but switch it to the right port when navigating the RetroArch menu as well as the N64 games, for what I can. In short, I'm unable to re-assign the controls, and I can't do much besides getting into the main menu of the N64 games I downloaded. Now when I load RetroArch the D-pad no longer lets me direct myself through the menu I have to press the R button, but it skips through several options. This time, I did that, and assigned all of the buttons on the entire controller to their corresponding buttons. Originally, I just assigned the D-pad controls into all of their corresponding directions and it worked fine. So, I went back to RetroArch, and re-did the controls. I also can't target lock with the L or R buttons either, which would help a lot in the game. I was able to get into the first dungeon of Ocarina of Time with most of the controls functioning just fine until I realized that I didn't have an assigned button for using items like the slingshot. The games run just fine on my system, I installed Golden Eye and Ocarina of Time. I'm using the SNES classic controllers that came with the system. I accessed it on my SNES and adjusted the controls for the N64 games. I eventually figured it out and a youtube tutorial showed me how to change my controls on Retroarch 190 Xtreme Ozone. I've gotten very used to using Hakchi but today I decided to try for more and get some N64 games onto it. I tried putting SNES9x into LaunchBox, but couldn't figure it out.Ĭould someone shed some light as to why RetroArch would slow down after moving it to the 4K TV in the living room? It played well on my monitor, which is 1080, but I doubt the resolution is the cause.Hi all, today I dipped into figuring out the Retroarch system on my SNES classic. What was odd, though, is that I downloaded SNES9x, and ran it outside of LaunchBox, and it ran at normal speed. I tried opening RetroArch outside of LaunchBox, and running a game like that, and still got the same issue. I tried using BSNES Balanced and Accuracy, as well as Performance, all with the same result. I tried downloading the other cores and changing it within LaunchBox, but to no avail. While trying to run a game though, it was slowed down considerably. So after all was said and done, I moved it back into the living room and hooked it back up to the 4k TV. I downloaded RetroArch, got some ROMS, set up RetroArch into LaunchBox, as well as the controller, and all games were playing well. So what I did was disconnect the computer from the living room, and brought it into my room, and hooked it up to my monitor via HDMI. Recently, I purchased a bluetooth SNES controller from RetroBit, and thought it would be great to get the SNES games going for my parents. and Mario Kart 64, all with very little to no problems. I've been using this to run Project64, and have been able to play Mario Party 1/2/3, as well as Super Smash Bros. I didn't buy any graphics card for it, so it's using the Intel HD Graphics 530. First off, this is my first post! So long story short, I built a family PC that is hooked up to a 4k TV with a Intel i5 6500, 8GB of DDR4 RAM (PC4 17000), and an SSD. |
